I will be painting 100 original works of art and offering them to buyers for $50 each! Finances got tight after the holidays with my kidney infection, but now I am recovered and ready to paint. This is how it will work..
I will have a notebook numbered to 100. I will enter the name of the person from 1 to 100, in the order that money is received. You can purchase one or more
painting(s) for $50 each, plus 9% tax, plus $5 shipping ($59.50).
When all one hundred paintings are sold, the first person on the list will get first choice, the second person paid will get second choice, and so on untill all 100 paintings are taken. I will photograph all paintings and post them to my site on January 30th 2010 for you to view and choose from. Don't hestitate, get in on this before they are all gone!!!

Last friday I was honored with the "Lois Smokey Award." She was one of the original Kiowa Five who studied at OU in the 1920's credited with the starting of traditional Indian art movement in Oklahoma. She was forced out because she was a woman and replaced.

Hey I guess I'm a show biz mom. I got a call from the Regis and Kelli Show people in New York. They want to talk to me about my boy. I answered a request for "Whiz Kids" by sending a photo of Lisan sculpting. They called today and I was so excited I hung up on them. (actually it was a message from them.) I'll call them tomorrow when I'm not so worked up!

The Five Tribes Museum in Muskogee Oklahoma hosted some happy young people this weekend. The Student Art Show awarded Lisan 1st place for "Victory and Defeat."(photo) He also won the Willard Stone Sculpture Memorial Award for "Medicine Man" and the Tooter Arrington Memorial Best in Show Award for his sculpture "Hompetv-Food." Christie Tiger won 1st for "Cultivating the Rosebuds." Roxanne Harmon won 1st for "Dadanatsoni-We're Gonna Play" and Collin Vann won third place and an Honorable Mention Award for his two basket entries. WAY TO GO LEGACY KIDS!!!

Gifted Young People

I started Legacy Cultural Learning Community, a youth arts non profit, to make our Native culture a daily part of our lives through programs taught by tribal members. This week, wow!, what talent we have in our Muscogee 'Creek' and Cherokee Nations. A junior at Sequoyah, on the softball team, makes good grades AND is a TALENTED artist...Roxannne Harmon. Roxy came to Tiger Gallery and made her own ball sticks and ball in the traditional Cherokee manner (no easy work!) for the game known as Stickball. We entered them in the Five Tribes Museum's Student Art Show where on March 1st at 2 o'clock we will see if she takes home a prize. This is Roxy's 2nd art competition entry. Her first was a pencil drawing of her fathers set of sticks in the Cherokee Nation JOM Art Competition. Winners will be announced next week. Let's all wish her luck. Actually, luck has nothing to do with it, Roxy is a winner due to her strong spirit and courage to step up and create great art!

Other Legacy artists who entered the competition include my son, Lisan, with three hand done sculptures. Christie Tiger entered a piece called 'Cultivating the Rosebuds', depicting the students of the Cherokee Female Seminary established in 1851 to educate the girls and women of the tribe and Collen Vann, a 7th grader, submitted two woven Cherokee baskets that he made himself.
These inspirational young people attend Sequoyah School in Tahlequah.
